How do I clean my natural latex mattress? To ensure that you can enjoy it for as long as possible, we recommend the following:
Airing the mattress
During sleep, we all lose significant amounts of moisture through natural perspiration. This must be absorbed by the mattress and later released back into the environment. It is therefore important to let the mattress breathe and to postpone making your bed in the morning. To prevent mold, never place the mattress directly on the floor or on another closed surface where air cannot circulate around the mattress. A slatted or disc base gives a mattress all the ventilation it needs. However, the bed bases from Dormiente or Green Sleep not only extend the life of your mattress, they also increase your sleeping comfort.
Turn mattress over
Regularly turning the mattress – sideways and lengthwise – ensures even use of the mattress and ensures that each side of the mattress is occasionally aired. It also prevents deep dents from forming over time – which naturally follow the contours of the body.
Cleaning the mattress
Your mattress cover cannot be washed due to shrinkage! If it does need a thorough cleaning, you can take it to the dry cleaners. However, this will cause the covers to wear out faster and the self-cleaning properties of the wool in the cover will decrease. So do not do this preventatively to clean, but only in the case of serious stains. To protect your mattress cover, we recommend using a molton.
It is best to clean the mattress occasionally with a brush or vacuum cleaner. Be careful with vigorous beating or rubbing of the mattress, as this can cause damage.
Protect mattress
Natural latex is sensitive to UV radiation. If a lot of sunlight enters your bedroom, protect the mattress by using sun blinds or by making the bed with your duvet. However, let the mattress ventilate after sleeping before making the bed.
